Maintenance

Maintenance
This product is a tatami made with washi surface material developed by DAIKEN Corporation.
As a modern alternative to natural igusa, it combines durability, hygiene, and lasting beauty.
Daily care is simple, allowing you to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment over time.
Daily Care
Basic maintenance is very simple:
- Gently wipe with a dry cloth or a tightly wrung damp cloth
- Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the surface
- Clean along the grain to preserve the texture
Please avoid scrubbing too hard, as it may damage the surface.
If It Gets Dirty
Washi surfaces are resistant to water and stains.
- Light stains → wipe with a damp cloth
- Oil stains → wipe with a diluted neutral detergent, then finish with a damp cloth
Unlike natural igusa, stains are less likely to penetrate the surface, making maintenance easier.
Mold & Dust Mite Prevention
Compared to natural igusa, washi tatami is less prone to mold and dust mites.
- Ensure regular ventilation to prevent moisture buildup
- Occasionally lift mattresses or bedding to allow air circulation
Especially when used with bedding, airflow is key to maintaining cleanliness.
For Long-Lasting Beauty
- Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause fading
- We recommend occasionally changing the position to avoid uneven pressure
- Air-drying in the shade, including the underside, will help extend its lifespan
While washi surfaces are resistant to discoloration, natural aging may occur depending on the environment.
Precautions
- Do not leave the product in a wet condition
- Ensure proper ventilation in hot and humid environments
- Avoid prolonged use on floor heating systems
